Summer decor tips: bring the outdoors into your home
Summertime means sunshine and more time spent outside, especially in Arkansas. To celebrate a summer spent mainly in the sunshine, why not let the outdoors inspire your home décor? Here are some tips for extending your time outside by bringing the outdoors into your home.
- Let the sunshine in!
Have you ever been into a home that looks dark and dingy, or one that is only lit by artificial lighting? Compare that with homes that are wide and expansive with large ceilings, and plenty of natural light. The open and bright homes just seem to evoke a positive vibe and feel. This is one easy way to bring the outside into your home without having to change anything! Just pull those curtains back and open the blinds to bring more natural light into your home.
- Plants, Plants and MORE PLANTS!
Bringing the outside in is not the only benefit of having a whole lot of plants in your home. Plants are a beautiful accent to your home that makes it look airy and outdoorsy. The colors of plants will accent any color scheme in your home and are also great for the air quality in your home. Not only will it be like you are outdoors when you are indoors, but you will be breathing fresher, cleaner air like you are outdoors as well! If you are prone to killing your plants, then there are a lot of options for people who don’t exactly have green thumbs, such as cacti and succulents.
- Decorate with nature inspired pieces
There are so many ways that you can decorate your home with elements that are found in nature. While plants are one of them (see number 2), you can also use other more non-traditional elements like fruit, pine cones, leaves, pressed flowers, rocks, etc. Wicker is also a great way to add vintage outdoor style to your indoor space.
- Create that Boho look with a ‘more is more’ approach
Even more is more when it comes to indoor plants. Hang them high and include large ones in pots to create a true interior jungle. Monstera and ferns live inside if they have good sunlight and are kept moist.
- Sleek and clean look
For many people who want a calm and peaceful home, removing the clutter is usually the first priority. Organic designs are often simplistic, which means your lighting design should follow suit. For example, try hanging two pendants in a natural material over your bedside tables, rather than placing a lamp. This eliminates clutter on the table, while maintaining functionality.
