Brighten Up Your Room
Winter — the days are shorter, the weather is colder and the sunlight is a bit duller. It’s easy to get in a slump during the winter months, but having a bright living space inside your home can help to liven up your day and lift your mood. At Cleo’s, we have decoration experts that know a thing or two about how to brighten up a room. Here are our five tips on how to enliven your home this winter.
- Utilize Natural Light
It really goes without saying, but natural light is your friend — mother nature’s gift to your living room. In the short hours that the sun is shining this winter, you want that sunlight to be as visible as possible in your home. Utilize curtains rather than shades, making it easier for the light to enter your room. Avoid covering windows with large pieces of furniture. A small accent table just below the window is a great way to take advantage of space without blocking the natural light your window may provide.
- Use lots of light fixtures
Joint with natural light, artificial light fixtures are the most obvious and important way to brighten up a room. When it comes to artificial lights, more is better. If you have room for it, go for a big chandelier or light fixture. Place lamps around the room. Make up for the lack of natural light which we tend to have during the winter months. This will prove a massive way to add more light in your room and fashionable lamps can be a nice stylistic touch to your living space.
- Take advantage of mirrors
Aside from lights, mirrors are your best friends when it comes to brightening up a room. A mirror reflects the light which comes from your other sources and adds a bit of flare to your home. A large mirror also adds depth to a smaller room, making it seem bigger and more spacious.
- Make sure your colors are correct
Bright colors lighten up a room more effectively than dark colors, of course! Brighter colors — yellow, white, light blue — reflect more light than darker colors such as black or brown. This adds more vibrancy to your room and helps keep it brilliant during the winter months.
- Add Bright Decor
Aside from brightly-painted walls, brightly-colored decor adds a great deal of light to your room as well. Whether that be bright pictures hanging on the wall or bright decorative accents on the couch, new decor can bring your room to life.
